| | Leon is the only child of his parents. While his father spoiled him, his relationship with his mother was always trying because of the fact that she had so desperately wanted a girl. The pregnancy with Leon had been hard, and she was told that she was blessed to have brought a healthy baby to term. Still longing for a daughter, Leon's mother attempted pregnancy after pregnancy – all of which resulted in miscarriages. Unsurprisingly, his mother and he never really made the time to work through their issues. Leon now jokes that this was the point where his streaks of good luck began “In the womb, that is.” Leon grew up with a rather “typical” history, or so he liked to think. He didn't speak to his mother though sometimes she would drunkenly proclaim that all she ever wanted was a daughter; his father raised him on hunting trips and “what some would say was childish and useless, video games, but I knew to be spectacular training concerning hand-eye coordination.” When Leon graduated high school, he went directly into the police academy. He graduated with flying colors and worked furtively to gain the title of detective. It wasn't until he became a detective and was ushered into the Good Ole Boys' Club that he learned to what extent the AMC was corrupt. He could barely tell the difference between them and the families. He was distraught over this and thought about quitting the force. However, his father convinced him that if he left, if all the good men left, there wouldn't even be a sliver of a chance of things improving. Leon knew there wasn't a sliver of a chance as it was, but he couldn't think of letting go of the sliver of a sliver as clichéd and childish his thoughts sounded to himself. Three years ago, the partner that he had been working under, one of the only other clean cops he knew, fell off a bridge. Or something. For some reason, it was thought that Leon had learned all he needed to be That Guy, That Mentor Guy and a bioweapon was dropped into his coffee. Karla DeGlacia. Young. Spunky. Loud. Beyond dyke-y. Annoying. Under the impression that they were going to be the best of friends and partners. But also, she was clean. It was worth giving a shot. Albeit begrudgingly of course. This was his job. He wasn't there to be someone's fag hag. However, young, spunky, loud, diesel dyke, and annoying also had hard work, dedication, a mean right hook, and even a few good jokes. Leon and Karla have grown to become, not only partners, but friends. When Karla's long term girlfriend and she had a gnarly break up, Karla, as he would explain, “needed a place to stay for a few weeks, she said. Two weeks tops, she said. Nearly a year later, and she still isn't gone.” As much as Leon bitches about Karla, he knows he would give his life for her and, he hopes, vice versa. His humor is dry, and he has perfected the long suffering look. He puts up with a lot of shit, and he desperately wants there to be Right and Wrong. He also wants a girlfriend. It's nice to want things. |
